BUSY SIGNAL TO HEADLIGHT CONCERT IN KAMPALA

The first deal to bring Jamaican dancehall and reggae maestro Busy Signal to Kampala was plunked weeks into initiation but our snoops have established that he is finally confirmed for October 9. The lanky “Out Fid Dis” crooner will perform at Club Silk’s Street Jam on Independence Day (October 9) after the Industrial Area based night spot usurped a failed plan to bring him the Kampala. He had earlier been booked for a concert in our dusty city by Eagles’ Productions manager and “bivuulu” promoter Musa Kavuma but speculators intimidate the loaded fella pulled out of the deal in fear of losses and lack of sponsorship. Born Glendale Goshia Gordon, Busy Signal is a leading Jamaican dancehall and reggae artiste.   He is responsible for hits like One More night, Night shift, Bedroom Bully, which is a remix of Shaba Ranks’ 90s popular Bedroom Bully hit, Missing You, Reggae Music Again which is considered the biggest reggae hit at the moment as well as Watch Out Fid Dis, also one of the biggest dancehall hits at the moment. His gig comes in a backdrop of an oversold  show by fellow Jamaicans Koshens and Alaine  at Lugogo this month.

HEIGHT OF INCEST IN ZIMBABWE

mother and son gettyA 40-year-old mother is set to marry her own son.  The woman and her son claim to be in love with each other.  And now they want to take their relationship to the next level and get married considering that the mother, Betty Mbereko (from Mwenezi in Masvingo) is now six months pregnant and expecting her son’s child and her grand child. Mbereko, 40,  has been a widow for the past 12 years and has been living with her 23-years-old son  Farai Mbereko. She confirms that she is six month pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.
Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier.
She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.  “Look, I strove alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong.  “Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court council. Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the ilobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents. “I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,” he said. “It is better to publicise what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.” But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (This is a bad omen indeed). In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.”

UHURU KENYATTA'S SON TO SHOWCASE COLLECTION AT KENYA FASHION WEEK

Muhoho greets Kibaki as Uhuru Kenyatta smiles on.
Muhoho Kenyatta, the 17-year old son of President Uhuru Kenyatta, is the creative brains behind the youngest design group to showcase at tonight’s inaugural Kenya Fashion Week. Mo, as he is popularly known to his friends, is co-founder of the Nomadic brand and first designed a pair of trousers from khanga material two years ago. “I decided to get some pants made, some kikoi pants, but I saw some khanga material so I decided to make it out of that,” he says “My mum said it wasn’t a good idea as khanga was for women but I went out wearing them and people really liked them.” He says the trousers, which have bold colours and patterns, were so well received by family and friends, that he roped in fellow classmates at Peponi School, Nairobi, to register a company under the brand Nomadic. His partners, Rudradeer (Rudra) Khanna, 17, Wasim Manji, 16, and Waruru Wachira, 17 deal with accounts, marketing and production while he thinks up the designs. Two years after his first prototype of the khanga trouser - which he self modelled - Mo, who has a deep passion for the local material, says he believes his designs will continue to be well received. At their first exhibition last month, he says, they sold 100 khanga trousers in a day at the price of Sh2,000 each. “Apart from the pants, I’ve also gone into harems and shorts,” says the shy and unassuming Mo. At tonight’s fashion show, organised by Sonu and Sanjeev Sharma of Just Like That, Nomadic will showcase its full range of designs including trousers, harems and shorts. “The energy of this group is contagious and we knew they deserved a national platform on which to showcase their creativity,” said Sonu, the organiser of Kenya Fashion Week. Mo has personally designed all 10 Nomadic outfits to be worn by models this evening but is reluctant to reveal the details, fearing that doing so might eclipse tonight’s red carpet moment.
He does however say that the collection includes formal, casual and beach-wear and that he hopes it will surprise those with a dim view of khanga material. His harem trousers will be on sale at Westgate in Westlands, on September 7 and 8. “Our collection shows you the different ways in which you can use Nomadic,” said Waruru. “You can go to a club rocking Nomadic and you’ll still look fine.”

It may probably not be long before Mo’s parents, Uhuru and Margaret Kenyatta wear Nomadic to a public event. While the brand’s designs are unisex, Mo, who says he is determined to make a mark in the business world, adds that he would like to explore khanga dresses for women. “And later we want to go into swimwear.” “We want to do this ourselves. We want to try and build this ourselves. We wouldn’t want to get our parents too involved but we do take their advice and listen to it keenly,” says the self-deprecating teenager, who hopes to pursue a course in business management. He looks back at their first shoot and says: “We’ve gone from taking pictures on a white bedroom sheet with a phone on a bed to proper photo shoots by professionals.”

BEBE COOL'S WIFE JOINS THE SILVER SCREEN

Damning and shocking details emerging from the Serena-based NTV Uganda is that Zuena Kirema, the new host of the ‘Real Life Stories’ show will be taking home a cool $1,000 per month. This will be $600 difference from what the pioneer presenter and law student Justine Nameere used to get. On top of the pay cheque, we exclusively learnt that the sexy babe, who is starting duty early September, tasked management to avail her with a car loan, arguing that it would make her movement to various destinations easier. However, our insider pries and friends told us that Zuena used it as a ploy to stamp her feature at the station as it will not be possible to fire her in case she fails to live up to their billing until she fully pays up the car loan. The management can’t figure out what she is up-to since she already has several cars at her disposal and the company she is joining has a string of cars that she could readily use. We understand this is currently, the only conundrum against fully signing up the contract. On the other hand there has been talk within the station corridors by some of the staff members who, are still in shock as to how management zeroed on her. Many of them claim she has little or no experience at all on TV presentation and her command of the queen’s language is suspect. We can authoritatively report that Zuena, a suggested S3 drop-out, at one time failed to make it to the Miss Uganda throne, simply because of her wanting English command. Nevertheless, we pray she has had enough training and rehearsals to help reverse this history. Watch this space for inner details of who she competed with and why she emerged the ‘winner.

KENYAN GOSPEL ARTISTE TO WED POPULAR NIGERIAN APOSTLE

A year after his wife Connie Madubuko died, the Head Pastor of Revival Assembly Church, Apostle Anselm Madubuko is getting ready to remarry, according to a report by Yes Magazine this week. Apostle Madubuko is set to marry 33 year old daughter of a bishop and Kenyan gospel award winning music star, Emmy Kosgei. Their traditional marriage will hold on Thursday August 29th in Kenya, while their church wedding will hold on Saturday August 31 at Revival Miracle Cathedral in Lagos. A reception will follow later at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos. Apostle Anselm Madubuko talks about why he settled for Emmy Kosgei. "The truth is that God brought her to me and it was just glare in my spirit. When my wife passed on, I was completely clueless and I began to pray. God showed her to me. She refused my advances initially but after some time through prophesies and so on, she said yes." Apostle Madubuko met Emmy in Kenya in 2010 during one of his visits to the country to propagate God's work at the Revival Assembly Azusa conference. Emmy was at the conference to perform.
