NOLLYWOOD GOES HOLLYWOOD

The Nigerian movie industry has taken yet another huge step of progress with the movie, TOBI; a Nigerian movie shot in the United States of America. This is not just one of those movies where the producer or director sneaks a camera into the streets and shabbily shoots a single scene and merges this into a Nigerian picture. Rather, with an American lead cast (Mark Williams) and a cross section of other foreign and Nigerian actors (including Chet Anekwe of Monique’s ‘Phat Girls,’ Chisom Oz-Lee and others), Nigeria’s U.S-based producer, Emmanuel Ijeh delivers a movie that takes a giant leap into the halls of Hollywood yet retaining its Nigerian essence. The movie premieres today (18/05/2012) in Nigerian cinemas on at Ozone Cinema in Lagos, Nigeria.

K’NAAN TO SHOOT ROMANTIC MOVIE IN MWANZA

Rapper K’naan will have to take on a mushy role in a new romantic movie set against Belgian Congo's decolonization in the 1960s. K’naan will star in the movie titled The Catastrophist alongside actors Steve Coogan and Stephen Dorff that will be shot in Mwanza, Tanzania.
Produced by British director Nick Broomfield via his Lafayette Films, Paul Miller of Escape Pictures and Blighty's Channel 4 with line producer Donall McCusker ("Hurt Locker") the movie will tell an endearing l0ove story. According to Variety, Broomfield believes The Catastrophist will give Tanzania's fledgling film biz a similar boost. While McCusker expects difficulties -- such as finding the period vehicles and set pieces to recreate the Belgian Congo of the 1960s -- Tanzania has enough of a barebones industry with equipment and local technicians to support a foreign production.
Meanwhile, K’naan was in Kenya together with retired basketball player Dikembe Mutombo and Cindy McCain the American businesswoman, philanthropist, and the wife of failed presidential candidate John McCain. The trio visited Dadaab, the main refugee camp on the border of Somalia and Kenya.

BRITISH ACTRESS TO BE BOND GIRL NOT GENEVIEVE

UK tabloid News Of The World has named the British Actress and Pirates of Caribbean star , Naomie Harris as the next bond girl rather opposed to rumours that Genevieve Nnaji is the next bond girl.
Naomie was a part of the cast of Pirates of the Carribean. The News Of The World wrote that Naomie Harris would play Daniel Craig’s sexy sidekick in the soon -to-be filmed new 007 movie. She had a steamy love scene with Jamie Foxx in the Miami Vice remake, saying: “I’m totally comfortable naked.”
Her mind’s just as agile – she graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in social and political science. In the soon to be filmed bond movie is only by its working title Bond 23 and cast like Judi Dench will again play M and Ralph Fiennes is in the running for a role. It is due for release in November 2012 and directed by Sam Mendes,

OFFICIAL: BBA'S KEVIN AND ELIZABETH MARRIED

After days of waiting Naija millionaire Kevin Chuwang has officially quit the bachelors club and married off Tanzanian Elizabeth Gupta at a lavish wedding in Lagos,Nigeria.  The couple had an exclusive send off party in December last year (2011) in Dar es salaam,Tanzania. It's the ceremony that gave Kevin the precious Elizabeth who is set to become Nigerian pretty soon. And our Naija scooper intimated to us that it was full of glamor and glitz..Oga style. The couple have been pronounced one and are set to go for their honeymoon soon.

During the show last year, Kevin was obviously crushing on Elizabeth and she was blowing “hot and cold”, she made it clear that she liked him but couldn’t see them having a relationship. She also shared that she had “never dated a black guy” and also said “Kevin was too short for her”!
It is great to see them get together and let’s not chastise Lizzy for her previous comments. If only things we said about people who turned out to be future girlfriends/boyfriends/husbands/wives were caught on tape! We would all be so guilty.
Congrats to Kevin and Elizabeth. The past 12 months have been amazing for Kevin, first he became the first Nigerian to win Big Brother Africa and picked up a $200,000 cheque for his efforts and now he is reportedly engaged to the love of his life. Up next for Kevin is the release of his debut album, his singles “Wok Pichak” featuring Stitched, “Una Pata Mambo” featuring Stitched and Lizzy, “Thank You” and “Dance Hall Nice” are already getting airplay on the radio. Elizabeth is also working on her music and acting career, she featured in a Tanzanian movie entitled “Danger Zone” earlier in the year.Watch out for their pictures here in soon.

NONINI STARS IN A MOVIE

Nonz
Nonini has added another feather to his cap - acting. He is set to appear in a new movie, "Killer Mmoja" a 2011 African Genge drama film, directed by Willie Owusu and Produced by Hubert Nakitare and Aleks Kamau. The movie stars Nonini (The Godfather), Lady Bee (The Queen), Chege Chigunda (TMK Wanaume), Introducing Hanako, Jaymz Kiama, Mustapha, Sandra, Stephanie and Danny. A movie about Genge and how it gets 3 musicians in trouble with a very wealthy family because of there daughters association to the style of music and the Artists. "Coming from a hood back ground genge and the musicians dont sit well with an upper class family! Dropping IN 2011..." read a statement sent to us by the rapper.
From what we can see, this will be one brilliant movie, at least production wise since we can't judge on the script until we watch the film. We love the strides Nonini is making in his career.
The movie's soundtrack will be released soon!
