THE KING IS BACK
| King Oyo Nyimba of Toro and Queen Mother Best Kemigisha return toUganda to prepare for the wedding |
The Omukama of Tooro kingdom Oyo Nyimba and the Queen mother Best Kemigisa arrived in the country on Wednesday, dispelling media reports that Kemigisa was arrested in the USA. The King Oyo and his mother landed at Entebbe International Airport aboard a British Airways morning flight. They arrived ahead of the Princess Ruth Komuntale’s wedding set for next month.
They were welcomed amidst fanfare by Tooro kingdom officials and subjects who included an entourage of ministers and elders. The two arrived through the VIP section of the airport and were immediately ushered to the arrival lounge, visibly tired from the long flight from Heathrow. The kingdom’s anthem was sang and thereafter, King Oyo was led outside where he shook hands with waiting school children who sang Kitooro folksongs. Present were the regent, Rev. Richard Baguma, Princess Elizabeth Bagaya, and the palace minister Meshach Kawamara.
The Kingdom’s minister of information Arthur Namara said that wedding preparations were ongoing and Princess Komutale would arrive in due course. Namara however gave no specific date for Komuntale’s arrival. “The King and the Queen mother have arrived in order to prepare ground before the wedding. Preparations are in high gear in the kingdom, and we have a month and some few days remaining,” Namara said. Princess Komuntale, 23, is set to walk down the aisle with her American fiancĂ©, Thomas Christopher in a ceremony that will take place at St. John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal. The wedding will be preceded by a traditional introduction at the home of Charles Kamurasi, the Princess’ paternal uncle and head of the ruling Babiito clan.

UGANDAN TYCOON RELEASED
UGANDA tycoon Michael Ezra Mulyowa has been freed by a Kenyan court after he paid a Ks4m (about sh116m) cash bail. Ezra, who was last week charged before Makadara Court for issuing a bad cheque of Ksh16m to a local company, SMR Ltd, re-appeared before chief magistrate Martin Muya yesterday and applied for bail.
Ezra’s lawyer Christopher Kenyariri told the court that: “Ezra is a man of integrity since he presented himself before the investigation officers. Therefore, he should be allowed a reasonable cash bail in accordance with the new constitution. It’s a bailable offence, the case can be heard when he is out,” Kenyariri argued.
Kenyariri told court that his client Ezra is an international businessman dealing in real estate and other business in Kenya. “My client has property in Nyari within Nairobi, where he presented himself before authorities for arrest. He also has properties in Karen,” he said. Ezra’s wife, Grace Mulyoowa expressed relief upon her husband’s release. “The whole experience has been tough and memorable,” she said.
The hearing of the case was fixed for May 10, but Ezra will have to re-appear before court on March 7.
Last week, Ezra was charged and remanded after he denied charges of issuing a false cheque.
Court was told that Ezra on October 20, 2009, at Ecobank on Muindi Mbingu Street, issued a false cheque of $200,000 to SMR Limited, knowing he had insufficient funds in his bank account.
Ezra is also wanted in Uganda over charges relating to fraud and issuing false cheques.
He allegedly issued a false cheque worth $550,000 (about sh1.15b) to a software engineer.
Ezra had eluded arrest for sometime. Late last year, he sneaked out of Uganda, but was arrested in Kenya last week.

UGANDAN TYCOON DETAINED IN KENYA
A Ugandan tycoon wanted for fraud has been denied bail by a Kenyan court. Mr Michael Ezra, the mysterious Ugandan tycoon who was linked with an attempt to buy English club Leeds United, was remanded in custody until Monday. He was arraigned at the Makadara law courts where the prosecution opposed bail on grounds that the police were yet to finalise investigations. Mr Ezra was charged with drawing a bad cheque worth $200,000 (Sh16m) to a Kenyan company, SMR Ltd in 2009.
He allegedly drew the cheque on October 20, 2009, at Ecobank Towers on Muindi Mbingu Street in Nairobi, knowing that his account had insufficient funds.
Mr Ezra allegedly disappeared after drawing the cheque which prompted the company to drag him to court.
He was arrested Wednesday by Kenyan police who were effecting a warrant of arrest issued against the foreigner.
By Wednesday evening the tycoon was being held at the Gigiri police station and was scheduled to be arraigned in court Thursday. Nairobi Provincial Police boss Anthony Kibuchi confirmed that Mr Ezra had been arrested and was being held in custody."He was arrested and is being held because we have a warrant of arrest issued by the court. He will appear in court tomorrow (Thursday)."
"The cases involves fraud and obtaining money from people by false pretences,” Mr Kibuchi said.
Ugandan police once issued a warrant of arrest for him following his failure to clear multiple debts and allegedly issuing two bad cheques worth UShs2 billion.
According to Ugandan police, Mr Ezra issued false cheques to a Mr Frank Katusiime and a Dr Charles Mushabe while at the same time failed to pay Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) over UShs1.2bn in taxes.
Upon receiving the news of Mr Ezra’s arrest, the Uganda police are digging up more fraud cases that may help them extradite him to the country.
The Special Investigations Unit boss, Ms Grace Akullo, said they still have cases which they are investigating and the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered them to bring them forward.
“Some of the cases hit a snag because of the court orders but we have other cases against him which are still pending that can help us in this case,” Ms Akullo said.Michael Ezra is the man who tried to buy English premier league club Leeds club.

UG GOV'T COMPENSATES BEBE COOL
When we said he’s perhaps the only artists in Uganda to be so tight with the President, many didn’t believe us. Moses Saali alias Bebe Cool is the first artist to get a warm visit from the big man a few months back after getting shot by a trigger-happy security officer at Effendy’s bar and club. The president even went ahead and promised to meet the damages the singer went through during his absence from the music scene.
A few debates were carried out whether the Bogolako singer would be paid or it was just media hype but to everyone’s astonishment, state house released info that Bebe is to be given 180million shs as compensation for the damages he endured at the beginning of this year.
The money will also be part of Bebe’s further treatment in the USA until he gets back on his two feet. He’s slated to travel a few weeks from now with his wife Zuena and two kids Alpha and Beata.
However, the question on everyone’s mind is? Did the Government make the right decision of meeting Bebe’s costs? Because he sued the government a few months back for “damages” yet he has been performing in several places like his “Denmark tour” last month, “Return of the king concert” and not forgetting more places he has been advertised on!

CHAMELEONE ASSAULTS POPULAR MUSICIAN
Beef and fights seem to have no end in Uganda's showbiz. The latest news that have landed on showbizxklusivs desk indicate that Pearl's lead singer Jose Chameleone beat up dance hall artiste Vamposs yesterday. The reason being Vamposs refused to worship Chameleone, a thing that never went well with the Leon Island point-man ending in a showdown. The details about the fight have been scanty but the war is likely to continue as Swangz Avenue artistes have promised to revenge against the Leon Island boss. Vamposs brother Maurice Kirya was shocked at what Chameleone did to his brother. 'I was blind but now i see, with blows to his face, he wondered why he was attacked, and the answer was, because he did not worship the Dr. Joseph chameleon! i hope my brother vamposs recovers from the injuries and dis figured face, i love his music, but chameleon has attacked many, and is protected by all of us. We have ...all failed to lead as a good example to the coming generation! said Maurice Kirya. And the war could get uglier if the Swangz avenue keep their word to revenge. ''You shall fight the whole swangz and friends, beat everyone you find, but trust me Vampino was the last, he's the wakeup call. You pressed the wrong button, played a bad card. We got you another title coming. The man u beat is like the swangz ambasoder. he too got a commandin that follow him, now we are all out,' said Viboyo when he called on us.
