One of AND1 street basketball players, Paul Otim AKA Polo from Atlanta, Georgia was yesterday detained by Kenyan officials for hours after he was found without a passport. We are informed, Polo, who is originally from Uganda but moved to America, does not have a US passport and holds refugee status and only has temporary travel documents. The basketballer, is part of the "AND1 Live Streetballers 2011" who are in Kenya for an exhibition match on Saturday.
Customs officials could not understand why he was traveling without a passport thus Polo was held for hours as custom officials further investigated his status. However, there was good news as he was finally allowed into the country.
The AND1 crew is in town for the 'And1 East African Tour' sponsored by Sprite. The team, which comprises 16 of some of its best basketball players, is scheduled to showcase their skills and stunts to basketball lovers with their range of skills and stunts in Dar es Salaam, Kampala, Kigali and Nairobi on 11 June.
