CARNIVAL COMING TO THE STREETS OF KAMPALA

Come July 29 and 30, the streets of Kampala will be lit up with hot girls in dazzling colours with lots of recreational activities as the Kampala Carnival launches. The good news was delivered by His Excellency Patrick Edwards the Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner to Uganda during a media launch party held at UMA show grounds on Wednesday. The diplomat revealed that the government of Trinidad and Tobago is working hand-in-hand with the Ugandan government and the private sector to ensure the KShs100 million event is a success. The minister of state for tourism Mr Serapio Rukundo attended as the guest of honour and said the annual carnival will propel Uganda into tourism limelight.
“It is an event where all people equally express their delight regardless of their status in public,” he added. “A CEO freely mingles with a messenger and it is very productive on the side of tourism because it is one event people in the East and Central Africa region will be looking forward to every year.”
Mr Edwards said that the Kampala Carnival will be the first Trinidad and Tobago-style carnival in East Africa.“Kampala carnival is intended to build stronger relations, through cultural tourism and public diplomacy, between Uganda and Trinidad and Tobago; Uganda and the East African region and eventually Uganda and the rest of the world,” reads a statement from the organisers.
On the activity front, the organisers say that there will be music, dance and a march on the streets with different bands playing. It will also include a street parade featuring masqueraders in cultural costumes representing the cultural heritage of Uganda’s regions and that of Trinidad and Tobago.
The do will begin at Kololo Airstrip, follow a designated route through the city, with various judging points along the routes – for judging the best band/cultural performance – and finally return to Kololo for the closing party.
