BRITISH PRODUCER ARRESTED IN UGANDA OVER GAY PLAY

Uganda on Thursday arrested a British theatre producer for staging a play in Kampala about a gay man despite a temporary ban by the country's media authorities, a police spokesman said. Producer David Cecil was sent to prison until a bail hearing on Monday after being charged in a Kampala court, an AFP reporter said. "There are two charges preferred against him, one of disobeying lawful orders contrary to the penal code and another of staging the play which was still under review," Ibin Ssenkumbi, a spokesman for the Kampala police, told AFP. The groundbreaking play -- titled "The River and The Mountain" -- was performed at several venues around Kampala last month despite an injunction by Uganda's media council, the government media authority, which had placed a temporary ban on the play pending review of the script.
The play examines the plight of a man who comes out as homosexual and the motivations of Uganda's vociferous anti-gay lobby. Written by British playwright Beau Hopkins, it was directed and performed by Ugandans. Homosexuality is already a crime in Uganda but proposed legislation currently before parliament would see the death penalty introduced for certain homosexual acts. Although legislators have said the bill could be changed, in its current form, anyone caught engaging in homosexual acts for the second time, or engaging in gay sex where one partner is a minor or has HIV, would be sentenced to death. Public discussion of homosexuality -- including by rights groups -- would be punished by up to seven years in jail.

UGANDA'S JOSE CHAMELEONE SPOTTED WITH HALF NAKED MODEL

City model Doreen Kabarebe left star singer Jose Chameleone swallowing dry saliva when she paraded her soupy booty. This was backstage last weekend as the Basiima Ogenze star prepared to hit stage to perform at the Sisqo Concert. According to snoops, Doreen who was understandably high on booze stormed the artistes tent donning a show stopping, very short white dress that revealed all the angles of her bum cheeks. And though snoops could hardly decipher what the two were exchanging, Chameleone looked comfortable as he grabbed her by the waist intently listening. "She was all over him-whispering some things in his ears and he looked to be in agreement with every single word" a witness said.

WAYNE WONDER AND DEMARCO SET KAMPALA ABLAZE

Demarco concert leaves revellers longing for moreTHE much-hyped Demarco and Wayne Wonder concert, organised by KFM, finally went down last weekend at the Lugogo Cricket Oval. And boy, oh boy, what a major flop it was! We could perhaps blame the handful of revellers on the rain, for it was a wet affair all day and into the night. We had a sort of “am I at the wrong concert?” moment when Emperor Orlando and later, Mega Dee, if you remember them, got on stage as part of the curtain raisers. We did not see that coming! The KCCA advert encouraging everyone to clean up and beautify our Kampala, which had revellers booing, was another of the low points. It just went to show how more lessons need to be drilled in the minds of Ugandans if they are to become civilised and feel comfortable living in a clean and beautiful environment. I mean, who says no to cleanliness? Really? Well, back to the concert, most of the earlier opening acts were a drag untill the likes of Aziz Azion, Ragga Dee, Lilian Mbabazi and Jackie Chandiru graced the stage. They had amazing performances, but perhaps to crown it all, Bobi Wine’s Bad By Far gig took the night, for it sort of injected adrenaline into the handful crowd. The Goodlyfe boys were the last Ugandan act. They did not disappoint though someone should tell Weasel to stay away from skinny Jeans. Then came fireworks in honour of Uganda’s 50th birthday. Finally, Kenya’s Madtrax hit the stage. The hype man to the Get Down singer, a Mr Rosso, did what emcee Kats and some local artistes had failed to do all night. Alongside Deejay BK, this hype man worked the crowd to an overkill of frenzy with snippets of Kenyan songs from the past and now, a thing that gave Madtrax a joy ride. Somebody should have thrown MC Katts off the stage! Madtraxx lived to his billing with an energetic performance though the microphone and the sound did a good job at curtailing his act. Luckily, Wayne Wonder finally got on amidst screams. He braved the rain and delivered starling vocals. His Heal the World rendition was moving and stage presence was on point. Then finally, as time was inching towards 1:00am, Demarco, the man everyone was waiting for, hit the stage. Diehards braved the rain and loved every moment of the I Love My Life singer’s performance. The show, unfortunately, had more hype than crowds; more wait than hands in the air and the VIP area had more empty chairs in attendance. The visiting stars did not disappoint one bit, but they were let down by the sound which was, mercifully put, awful! Of course they also did not love the little crowd!

UGANDA'S SUSAN NAAVA SPEAKS ABOUT HER EXIT FROM NTV

Susan Nava shuts down NTV axing talk
FORMER NTV Log-In show presenter Susan Nava has hit back at allegations that she was fired from the Serena Hotel-based station. Nava, who insists she went back to Europe to pursue her personal interests, said that someone in Kampala is trying to provoke a reaction out of her but she refuses to name her suspect.A tabloid on Monday reported that Nava had been ‘forced’ out of NTV and replaced with motor-mouth Robin Kisti, who shot to fame with the promo, Ekyakabi, which she co-presented with Brian Mulondo. But Nava said the allegations are “childish mudslinging” that she cannot engage in.“I was in no way forced out and although I am no longer working with NTV, my relationship with the management is still civil because it was all very drama- free. But I know where this is coming from and I know better than to participate in this juvenile mudslinging,” she said but refused to give details of the suspect she thinks is after her person. Pressed further in the telephone interview with e Kampala Sun on why she thinks it is mudslinging, she said: “Insecurity is the worst hallucinogen. I let my work speak for itself, others should do the same. Does telling tales about me being forced out make anyone else seem more competent?” Mind game experts at our desk have concluded Nava is hinting that Robin Kisti is the wheel behind the rumours, but Kisti told Corporate Ha-Heard that she is not aware of the rumour and even if she did, she can never comment on it.

UGANDA'S SEXIEST DIVA TO BE INTERROGATED

WORD reaching us has it that top policemen are interested in interrogating sexy diva Desire Luzinda about allegations that she was attacked and beaten up by unidentified men along the Northern bypass. We hear that despite the fact that Luzinda is hesitant about pursuing her attackers, the Police wants to establish substantial facts about the whole event.“We are waiting for her to come here and tell us whatever happened and we investigate the whole matter, we cannot just look on,” a top Police officer at Wandegeya Police station said. Our efforts to get the singer’s comment were futile as she did not pick our calls but a close source to the ‘Njagala Nnyo’ singer said that they will not report to Police but rather will take precautions now that they have enemies following them. The singer was allegedly beaten up by three men who dragged her out of her Mercedes Benz before dumping her unconscious by the roadside. She was reportedly taken to a Hospital in Nairobi. Other sources say that men could be following her as she has been in and out of relationships with a number of city businessmen. “I suspect that one of his estranged boyfriends could be the one who masterminded the whole thing as she has dumped a number of men, many of whom still loved her,” a close friend to the singer who preferred anonymity said

MUSIC CONCERTS BANNED BEYOND 10PM IN UGANDA

WITH American singer, song writer and producer – Sisqo, real names Mark Arthaveans Andrew’s, highly anticipated concert just around the corner, KCCA’s Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi has cracked the whip on concerts. If news filtering in is anything to go by, the future of Kampala’s night outdoor entertainment is silent disco! The no-nonsense Musisi is determined to put music concerts into perspective. She has outlawed ‘loud’ concerts and has decreed artistes don’t perform beyond 10:00pm (a time when most concert-goers are still ocking in and enjoying curtain raising acts).
In a strong-worded letter that will surely cause anguish to Kampala’s party animals, she has moved to ban concerts at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, Kati Kati Bar and Restaurant, Hotel Africana People’s space until owners get clearance from KCCA.
In the communiquĂ© obtained, aforementioned places, which recently played hostto the music battle between Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool, Coco Finger’s launch and the Goodlyfe’s Tonjagala launch respectively, are faulted for persistent noise pollution, especially on weekends when they host large and noisy gatherings.
Please take note that you have been holding these outdoor events without a permit from KCCA as required by the Law and Order Ordinance (2006) and the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control Regulations, 2003).
This is to, therefore, direct you to stop forthwith any outdoor events at your facility until you obtain a permit from both KCCA and NEMA for each particular event you intend to hold.” the letter, signed by KCCA’s Director Legal Affairs Mike Okua indicates.
Musisi’s flowers spark fury
An insider at KCCA tells e Kampala Sun that the ultimatum from Jennifer Musisi stems from an incident during the just concluded Battle of the Champions between Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine.
The source tells that Musisi was driven to boiling point when show goers at Kyadondo, in total disregard for her efforts to beautify that part of town, destroyed her flowers as they stampeded to the venue.
This was also soured by the concert ending at 4:00am with Police having to step on stage to stop Bebe Cool from further performance. The source says Musisi intends to make it hard for those with facilities for outdoor events to obtain permits.
Even then, the source says, these permits will come with stringent guidelines, among which is for the concerts to end by 10:00pm. Peter Kaujju, the KCCA spokesperson confirms the new developments. In a phone interview, he admitted the new guidelines, owners of the outdoor event facilities, will have to apply for a permit from both KCCA and NEMA for each particular event they intend to hold.  He was, however, coy on the cost of these permits but added; “Failure to comply with the instructions will compel KCCA to impound one’s entertainment machines and or close the premises and cause arrest and persecution for violation of the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control Regulations, 2003 and the Law and Order Ordinance (2006).” Kaujju admitted that extreme discomfort from concerts isn’t only affecting the Kololo and Naguru areas but will soon expand to cover all the other entertainment facilities in the city famed for hosting loud concerts.
Previous bans failed
In 2008 bar owners and born-again churches were thrown in similar panic as over 11 were closed after being found to be main culprits responsible for high levels of noise pollution. The managers of these places had their machines impounded and were charged in court. Most of them pleaded guilty to the charge and were fined $100.  The bars that were penalised then included Golden Keys in Kiwatule, Soberz in Ntinda, Steak Out, Biggs, Blue Haze and Cheerz, all on Lumumba Avenue; as well as Punchline, Little Mama, CafĂ© Cherries and Tasha’s Pub, in Kabalagala. Also among them were Blue Corner and Ground Zero, both in Wandegeya. A NEMA official says on average, 10 complaints about noise pollution are received every week.

The National Environment Noise Standards and Control Regulations (2003) specifies the maximum permissible levels, as measured on the sound meter, are 40, 60 and 75 decibels for residential, commercial and industrial areas respectively. However, according to the source, some concerts produce up to 150 decibels, which are similar to a plane taking on the runway. The managers at the affected outdoor entertainment facilities declined to comment although a famous music promoter, on condition of anonymity, branded her a joker. “Let her start with the churches before wasting time on us. Many have tried and failed. Interfering with our business is the biggest joke I’ve heard from Musisi,” he angrily responded.

KAMPALA CHICS.......omg!!!

Ugandan ladies must be the rauchiest women in East Africa...just thinking.picture this....

IS ZARI HASAN LESBIAN?

Sylvia Owori and Billionaire singer Zari Hassan kissing and cuddling.....
City socialite Zari Hassan has done it yet again and she will stop at nothing in her bid to have a good life. The South Africa based self styled philanthropist put on a raunchy show with city fashionista Sylvia Owori as hubby Ivan and toyboy Malik cheered them on. This happened on Easter Monday during a boat cruise on L.Victoria as booze took its toll on them. A source said; “They were totally lost in their own world not caring what was going on around them. They were all over each other the whole evening.”
However, when temperatures reached boiling point, the two city socialites started touching, groping and snogging in the full of view of their hubbies. “It was a deep kiss and they did it with eyes closed,” a source added.
The boat cruise which was organized and funded by Zari for friends and family set off at around 4:00pm from Kampala University shoreline for K Palm beach on the Island. The boat had a total of 70 people that included a bevy of curvy Queen Dancers who provided raunchy entertainment that included lap dances to horny lads.
Owori made tongues wag around town in 2010, while watching the World Cup, when she French kissed motor mouthed journalist and Independent Magazine boss, Andrew Mwenda. That picture went viral when it was published. The two later claimed they have been friends and did that as a ‘civilised’ way of greeting each other.

EXCLUSIVE: U2 IN KAMPALA

It's fitting that one of the most politically plugged-in rock bands is in Kampala after debuting its world tour in South Africa on the anniversary of Nelson Mandela's first major rally after being released from prison, and at the same stadium where the anti-apartheid icon enthralled tens of thousands.
The U2 band are in Kampala and showbizxklusivs has learnt that they may be performing in the land of bananas. However, our Kampala reporter did not give details.
Guitarist The Edge told reporters in SA that he only learned the day before that Sunday's concert fell on a historic day. "It's such a beautiful, poetic day," he said.
Lead singer Bono noted that history was being made at the other end of Africa. "This continent is on fire," Bono said, adding he hoped Egypt would benefit from leadership as visionary as Mandela's.
The Edge added: "The real hope for Egypt is that it actually will become more democratic after this."
Bono said Mandela and retired Cape Town Archbishop Desmond Tutu — who makes a virtual appearance in U2's current show — have inspired his global campaigns against AIDS and poverty. Bono was planning to visit AIDS projects in South Africa between Sunday's concert and a second one in Cape Town on Feb. 18. U2 last played in South Africa in 1998.
The band may also visit Mandela, who is 92, ailing, and retired from public life. Bono said he had been in touch and learned Mandela was doing well after being hospitalized last month with an acute respiratory infection. Bono said a visit was possible, but he would not push.
"The last thing you want to be is the visit that the great man has to endure," he said.
The band discussed their musical and well as political heroes with reporters Friday. Bassist Adam Clayton said he would like to work with the Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, an opening act for their South African shows. Bono spoke of an early dream of having John Lennon produce their work, laughing at their naivete in their teens.
The band members, together three decades, said the secret to their longevity was friendship.
"We actually started out as friends, and then became a band," The Edge said. Check us out for more details...
